Eliminating Negative Energy

Good Morning! Still working on this consistent posting thing lol  but I do have something that I wanna talk about that has weighed on my mind for the past few days that I wanted to share with you guys. As I was scrolling through my Instagram feed, I stopped on a post by Cardi B of Love and Hip Hop fame (I think her posts are so entertaining so don’t judge me!) and she posted a pic of herself in a unique outfit and most of the comments were giving her praise posting things like:

girl you are working it!

beautiful!

big smiley emoji

kiss emoji

You get the picture!

Unfortunately, one person decided to write a comment that had nothing to do with the actual picture but choosing to comment instead on a rumor going around about her dumping a rapper she’s been seeing because he was going to charge her to be featured on a song of hers. Never mind that the rumor wasn’t true but it must have upset her so much that this was the ONLY comment that she replied to. Out of hundreds of positive comments/praise,  she chose to respond to the ONE person that brought negativity to her page and responded with anger saying something like:

“B-word” you don’t know what you’re talking about!

In that moment, I realized that many of us do the same thing on and offline and what starts out as being something positive and uplifting has turned into anger or resentment that weighs the soul down.

Instead of focusing on the “likes” or positive things happening in our lives, we choose to focus and respond to the negative; who doesn’t like us or why we don’t have this or that and dwelling on all the negative circumstances draws more negative energy our way.  You are what  you attract and instead of being concerned with that type of energy in the form of unnecessary criticism, harsh judgment or opinions that do not add to your life, focus on the people and things that make you happy and bring joy to  your day. Now I am not saying that there needs to be people who compliment you 24/7 to feed your ego or confidence but being around people who see the best in you and want the best for you is the easiest way to attract the things you want. If there are people in your life that focus more on the negative than the positive, you  may need to reevaluate these connections and find others that are like-minded and will help you in your journey to being the best version of  yourself. It is easier said than done but your peace of mind will thank you later for it;)

I’m working on being the best version of myself this summer by starting a 45 day fitness journey with a few of my friends, reading/listening to inspirational and motivational books/speeches, participating in a 90 day workshop with a group of inspiring and motivated women who also want to work on themselves and doing a bit of traveling for fun and celebration! Needless to say, I will have a lot to discuss in upcoming posts so make sure you always come back here to see what I am up to! Look forward to sharing my journey with you this summer and beyond!

Take care and always remember to love and live luxuriously!

Turning Negativity into Positivity

negativevspositiveGood Afternoon! I planned on writing a “Random Thoughts” post where I was going to vent about the crappy morning I had so far and talk about what made me feel sad, insecure, bitter, envious and all of that. Then I had a conversation with one of my closest friends and she made me realize that when you have a lot of things piled on you at once, that is usually a sign that something amazing will happen in the near future and you just have to keep pushing through the struggles and handle the stress to get to where you are destined to be.  So instead of focusing on the negative which is what I would have done if I were to post my rant, I will focus on all the positive things that are going on in my life such as this new diet I am on (check out my post on it here: (https://amoreluxe.com/2015/09/07/getting-my-body-and-mind-right/) . Even though the food isn’t what I am used to eating (chicken cutlets, sweet potatoes and salads on the regular isn’t what I am used to eating) I have felt good and I have more energy because I don’t feel bloated or weighed down like I usually do. And this is only Day 5! I can’t wait to see where I am at on the 30, 60 and 90 day mark! This is the beginning of something special and I plan on making this a lifestyle change that will be beneficial to my overall health and well-being. I am also being promoted to Director at my current job starting in November so that means more responsibility but also an increase in pay which is definitely needed. This job is also related to my major so it’s a great start in helping me learn skills that will help me for future opportunities.

I have so much to be thankful for so I want to direct all of my energy on what is to come instead of the stumbling blocks that are in my way because I know I can overcome them and get to where I need to be in life. The  vision board I created is a roadmap to my destiny but at times, the goals and dreams on it seem so far-fetched but if you can dream it, you can achieve it. The biggest life lesson I have learned is that the only person standing in the way of what you want is you. Anything that I release into the world will come back to me and if its negative energy that I am releasing, I will receive it ten fold. Positive energy is more beneficial so this post is the beginning of the release of those vibes.

Thanks to everyone who supports me and all that I intend to achieve. It means more to me than you can ever imagine:) Have a great weekend!

Day 7 Confidence Challenge: No Gossiping!

gossipGood Morning! Last night as I was deciding  what I wanted today’s challenge to be, I started thinking about the negative traits that I wanted to change about myself and one of them was gossiping. I am not as bad as some of my friends and family members but I still do indulge in gossip from time to time and that says more about my character than the person or people who I am speaking of. I can’t pretend that I like everything someone says or does but instead of focusing on the things that aren’t appealing or of interest of me when it comes to their appearance, behavior or overall personality, I could use that same time and effort into working on my life and the person I want to become. Gossip comes from a negative place and even though not all of it is meant to be malicious and hurtful (think about the funny and entertaining gossip blogs many of you read on a daily basis), it still demonstrates anger, envy, jealousy and other characteristics that are harmful to one’s mental well-being. They say misery loves company and a bunch of gossipers can spread misery and negative energy wherever they go.

I know how difficult it can be to stay away from gossip especially when your coworkers are talking about how much they can’t stand their boss or you turn on the television and watch yet another celebrity get bashed on TMZ but  today, try your hardest to refrain from engaging in the chatter. Change the subject or walk away once someone attempts to bring you into the negative conversation. Turn the channel on the television or close out of the window of the site that is feeding negative energy about someone. Engage in other activities that are uplifting to yourself and others and you will feel better about yourself and life in general. Instead of the possibility of guilt or remorse after bashing someone, your confidence will rise because you didn’t have to put someone down to feel better about yourself and that is what this challenge and overall campaign is about. Affecting others in a favorable way will bring about good energy in your own life and will be clear to anyone who encounters you.

I made a conscious decision not to post challenges everyday because I don’t want this challenge to feel like work. On the “off” days, I want everyone to reflect on their progress so far and create goals that will bring them into a more confident frame of mind. I want to thank everyone who made it through week one of the “30 Day Confidence Challenge” and for those who are just starting, here’s a recap of the challenges so far:

Speak Your Mind

drseussquoteGood Morning! After a week of writer’s block, I promised myself that I would post something even if it was a quote because I know that there is someone out there that may help from my posts as random as they can be sometimes! I believe that we are all works in progress and I know that as much as I’ve grown in the past few years, I still have a long way to go. I was looking for quotes online and stumbled across one by one of my favorite authors: Dr. Seuss (lol) that spoke about being true to who you are. Even though many people would consider me to be an outspoken and outgoing person, one of my biggest issues is that even though I know that I should focus on how I feel about myself and the decisions I make, the little girl inside of me still seeks approval and acceptance from her peers. It stems from my childhood and adolescence because I didn’t think that anyone cared about how I felt or what I wanted so I stayed silent on the sidelines. It took me years to really put myself out there and at times, I still have issues when it comes to speaking my mind. I have strong opinions about things but sometimes I hold my tongue because I don’t to sound ignorant or misinformed. Other times, I stay silent because I don’t want to feel like I’m the only one that doesn’t “get it” and I didn’t want to start arguing and end up looking foolish in the end. In instances like these, I don’t want to stand out so being silent seems like the only way to be accepted.

I started to notice that I was reverting back to the old me when I was at my retail job the other day. The managers and a few of the associates are very opinionated and self-assured and I started feeling like I used to when I would stay silent on things that bothered me because I wanted to avoid confrontation . Truth be told, I really don’t care for most of the people I work with and feel like I’m settling when I clock in so I’m polite and mainly focus on doing my job until it’s time for me to go. The thing is, I love talking to people about what’s going on in their lives and sharing stories so we can connect and hopefully heal but I can’t be my true self while interacting with associates and customers because the focus is not about connecting but making the sale. Although I went to school for marketing and understand the nature of business, I feel like this place is sucking the positive energy out of me because it isn’t my passion or my purpose. I know it is a temporary thing and I need to make the best of it but I can’t allow this job to bring me to a mental space where I am not being true to who I am or what I feel. Now I know better than to become loud and angry if someone says or does something that doesn’t sit right with me but I also know that I am not going to put up with disrespect solely because of my position as a sales associate. I am trying to find that balance so I can speak my mind and it doesn’t come off as abrasive or defensive but at the same time, I am respected and seen for who I really am.

One of the things I wanted to do this year was focusing on being a better person starting from within. As I stated in an earlier post, I wanted to start eating healthier even before I attempted to work out because I have been told that the key to staying fit is 70% diet and 30% exercise so I’m gonna work on that 70% now. Working on being a better person also means that I have to be in a positive space mentally and spiritually. I spoke about getting rid of toxic people in a recent post (https://amoreluxe.com/2015/01/16/toxic-people/) but even with positive people surrounding me, I have to find that light from within to truly shine. My friend Kimmy and I are always talking about making our dreams a reality. She is involved in social media marketing and has notable clients under her belt but she wants to go out and try new things in the city of dreams and is actually making it happen! She told me that I should read the book “The Secret” because it talks about the law of attraction to gain the things that you really want in life. I plan on starting it tonight so hopefully by next week, I can give my review on it. Also, I am planning on creating a vision board because she made one and so did my friend, beauty blogger extraordinaire Kiwi of www.kiwithebeauty.com  (love, love, love her site!) These ladies inspire me and have such positive energy surrounding them so if they are opening up their minds and exploring new possibilities by doing these things, I am damn sure going to do it too because this will help me become the woman I want to be!

There is a quote that says “The only true failure is the failure of not trying”so I am going to make sure I continue to give it my all. I am still working on a few things related to the “Confidence Campaign” so make sure you stay tuned for what I have in store because it is definitely worth the wait:) I hope all of you have an amazing day and remember to always love and live luxuriously!
