Eliminating Negative Energy

Good Morning! Still working on this consistent posting thing lol  but I do have something that I wanna talk about that has weighed on my mind for the past few days that I wanted to share with you guys. As I was scrolling through my Instagram feed, I stopped on a post by Cardi B of Love and Hip Hop fame (I think her posts are so entertaining so don’t judge me!) and she posted a pic of herself in a unique outfit and most of the comments were giving her praise posting things like:

girl you are working it!

beautiful!

heart emoji

big smiley emoji

kiss emoji

You get the picture!

Unfortunately, one person decided to write a comment that had nothing to do with the actual picture but choosing to comment instead on a rumor going around about her dumping a rapper she’s been seeing because he was going to charge her to be featured on a song of hers. Never mind that the rumor wasn’t true but it must have upset her so much that this was the ONLY comment that she replied to. Out of hundreds of positive comments/praise,  she chose to respond to the ONE person that brought negativity to her page and responded with anger saying something like:

“B-word” you don’t know what you’re talking about!

In that moment, I realized that many of us do the same thing on and offline and what starts out as being something positive and uplifting has turned into anger or resentment that weighs the soul down.

Instead of focusing on the “likes” or positive things happening in our lives, we choose to focus and respond to the negative; who doesn’t like us or why we don’t have this or that and dwelling on all the negative circumstances draws more negative energy our way.  You are what  you attract and instead of being concerned with that type of energy in the form of unnecessary criticism, harsh judgment or opinions that do not add to your life, focus on the people and things that make you happy and bring joy to  your day. Now I am not saying that there needs to be people who compliment you 24/7 to feed your ego or confidence but being around people who see the best in you and want the best for you is the easiest way to attract the things you want. If there are people in your life that focus more on the negative than the positive, you  may need to reevaluate these connections and find others that are like-minded and will help you in your journey to being the best version of  yourself. It is easier said than done but your peace of mind will thank you later for it;)

I’m working on being the best version of myself this summer by starting a 45 day fitness journey with a few of my friends, reading/listening to inspirational and motivational books/speeches, participating in a 90 day workshop with a group of inspiring and motivated women who also want to work on themselves and doing a bit of traveling for fun and celebration! Needless to say, I will have a lot to discuss in upcoming posts so make sure you always come back here to see what I am up to! Look forward to sharing my journey with you this summer and beyond!

Turning Negativity into Positivity

negativevspositiveGood Afternoon! I planned on writing a “Random Thoughts” post where I was going to vent about the crappy morning I had so far and talk about what made me feel sad, insecure, bitter, envious and all of that. Then I had a conversation with one of my closest friends and she made me realize that when you have a lot of things piled on you at once, that is usually a sign that something amazing will happen in the near future and you just have to keep pushing through the struggles and handle the stress to get to where you are destined to be.  So instead of focusing on the negative which is what I would have done if I were to post my rant, I will focus on all the positive things that are going on in my life such as this new diet I am on (check out my post on it here: (https://amoreluxe.com/2015/09/07/getting-my-body-and-mind-right/) . Even though the food isn’t what I am used to eating (chicken cutlets, sweet potatoes and salads on the regular isn’t what I am used to eating) I have felt good and I have more energy because I don’t feel bloated or weighed down like I usually do. And this is only Day 5! I can’t wait to see where I am at on the 30, 60 and 90 day mark! This is the beginning of something special and I plan on making this a lifestyle change that will be beneficial to my overall health and well-being. I am also being promoted to Director at my current job starting in November so that means more responsibility but also an increase in pay which is definitely needed. This job is also related to my major so it’s a great start in helping me learn skills that will help me for future opportunities.

I have so much to be thankful for so I want to direct all of my energy on what is to come instead of the stumbling blocks that are in my way because I know I can overcome them and get to where I need to be in life.The  vision board I created is a roadmap to my destiny but at times, the goals and dreams on it seem so far-fetched but if you can dream it, you can achieve it. The biggest life lesson I have learned is that the only person standing in the way of what you want is you. Anything that I release into the world will come back to me and if its negative energy that I am releasing, I will receive it ten fold. Positive energy is more beneficial so this post is the beginning of the release of those vibes.

Self(ie) Discovery Series

 
Good Morning! Over the past week, I was thinking about an activity I could do that would be creative, fun and most importantly, eye opening for myself as well as everyone involved. I was on Instagram looking for inspiration and what I found were selfies lol…. Celeb selfies (Rihanna and Nicki Minaj to name a few), selfies of folks with their kids, beautiful background location selfies and while I enjoyed looking at all of them, I couldn’t think of how taking selfies would help someone to become a more confident person. People usually take selfies when they are in a good mood so confidence is already there for them at that moment. But then I started thinking: What IF we took a pic of ourselves at various moments of the day whether whether we are smiling it not? They say a picture is worth a thousand words and are there to capture a moment in time whether it’s good or bad so why not take a pic of yourself and explain your current situation. The picture may conjure up negative emotions but those have to be handled for you to truly enjoy the amazing things in store. Faking a smile for Instagram may fool others but you have to be honest to the one person that truly matters: Yourself. 

This particular picture is one I took a few minutes ago while I was stuck in traffic on my way to work. I’ve been very vocal about my dislike for my morning job but this pic is how I feel on most days while I’m there. I fake a smile got the customers and enjoy talking to some of the associates but for the most part, I’m over it and I know a lot of it has to do with me not feeling like I’m not where I’m supposed to be. I know this is only a pit stop and not my final destination but I need to make moves FAST because I want more for myself and my life. 

My goal for the self(ie) discovery series is for everyone who participates to grow and learn from the moments they capture. At the end of the day, the experiences you go through make you who you are so focus on getting to where you want to be by being honest with yourself and making the proper adjustments. Can’t wait to see everyone’s selfies!
