Speak Your Mind

drseussquoteGood Morning! After a week of writer’s block, I promised myself that I would post something even if it was a quote because I know that there is someone out there that may help from my posts as random as they can be sometimes! I believe that we are all works in progress and I know that as much as I’ve grown in the past few years, I still have a long way to go. I was looking for quotes online and stumbled across one by one of my favorite authors: Dr. Seuss (lol) that spoke about being true to who you are. Even though many people would consider me to be an outspoken and outgoing person, one of my biggest issues is that even though I know that I should focus on how I feel about myself and the decisions I make, the little girl inside of me still seeks approval and acceptance from her peers. It stems from my childhood and adolescence because I didn’t think that anyone cared about how I felt or what I wanted so I stayed silent on the sidelines. It took me years to really put myself out there and at times, I still have issues when it comes to speaking my mind. I have strong opinions about things but sometimes I hold my tongue because I don’t to sound ignorant or misinformed. Other times, I stay silent because I don’t want to feel like I’m the only one that doesn’t “get it” and I didn’t want to start arguing and end up looking foolish in the end. In instances like these, I don’t want to stand out so being silent seems like the only way to be accepted.

I started to notice that I was reverting back to the old me when I was at my retail job the other day. The managers and a few of the associates are very opinionated and self-assured and I started feeling like I used to when I would stay silent on things that bothered me because I wanted to avoid confrontation . Truth be told, I really don’t care for most of the people I work with and feel like I’m settling when I clock in so I’m polite and mainly focus on doing my job until it’s time for me to go. The thing is, I love talking to people about what’s going on in their lives and sharing stories so we can connect and hopefully heal but I can’t be my true self while interacting with associates and customers because the focus is not about connecting but making the sale. Although I went to school for marketing and understand the nature of business, I feel like this place is sucking the positive energy out of me because it isn’t my passion or my purpose. I know it is a temporary thing and I need to make the best of it but I can’t allow this job to bring me to a mental space where I am not being true to who I am or what I feel. Now I know better than to become loud and angry if someone says or does something that doesn’t sit right with me but I also know that I am not going to put up with disrespect solely because of my position as a sales associate. I am trying to find that balance so I can speak my mind and it doesn’t come off as abrasive or defensive but at the same time, I am respected and seen for who I really am.

One of the things I wanted to do this year was focusing on being a better person starting from within. As I stated in an earlier post, I wanted to start eating healthier even before I attempted to work out because I have been told that the key to staying fit is 70% diet and 30% exercise so I’m gonna work on that 70% now. Working on being a better person also means that I have to be in a positive space mentally and spiritually. I spoke about getting rid of toxic people in a recent post ( but even with positive people surrounding me, I have to find that light from within to truly shine. My friend Kimmy and I are always talking about making our dreams a reality. She is involved in social media marketing and has notable clients under her belt but she wants to go out and try new things in the city of dreams and is actually making it happen! She told me that I should read the book “The Secret” because it talks about the law of attraction to gain the things that you really want in life. I plan on starting it tonight so hopefully by next week, I can give my review on it. Also, I am planning on creating a vision board because she made one and so did my friend, beauty blogger extraordinaire Kiwi of  (love, love, love her site!) These ladies inspire me and have such positive energy surrounding them so if they are opening up their minds and exploring new possibilities by doing these things, I am damn sure going to do it too because this will help me become the woman I want to be!

There is a quote that says “The only true failure is the failure of not trying”so I am going to make sure I continue to give it my all. I am still working on a few things related to the “Confidence Campaign” so make sure you stay tuned for what I have in store because it is definitely worth the wait:) I hope all of you have an amazing day and remember to always love and live luxuriously!

Social Media Drama

socialmediadrama2Good Afternoon! After making my New Year’s Resolutions ( I was thinking to myself, “How am I going to go about achieving these goals?” As far as eating healthy, I have to buy and consume foods that will be beneficial to my body and I’ve done enough googling to know how to do that and as long as I stick to it, I’ll be good. As far as my second goal of thinking and acting positively however, that one in my opinion is easier said than done especially when my life consists of being heavily involved in social media. I am on just about every social media website out there (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Tumblr, etc.) and although I have viewed a lot of  positive stories, pics, and quotes, sometimes it feels like the negative outweighs the positive and at times, I am also guilty of playing a part in the negative energy that is put out into the social media atmosphere.

One of my closest friends refuses to sign up for any social media pages. I didn’t understand this logic because I feel that sites such as Facebook are a great way to stay connected to family and friends that you would lose contact with otherwise but she wouldn’t budge from her position of social media being emotionally draining and drama filled. I didn’t fully understand where she was coming from until I thought about the “drama” I have had because of social media. My ex boyfriend is my Facebook friend and a few years back, a Facebook friend of mine messaged me. We had a good conversation and  when this person asked me for my number, I didn’t really see as a big deal because I had like a million business cards with my number on it so I figured it was just another way of “connecting” with people. Turns  out that this guy I was connecting with was my ex’s cousin and he was very upset. We talked about it and moved on from that situation but now I know to check the “mutual friends” list before I engage in conversation with anyone I become Facebook friends with!

I’ve learned that incorporating all aspects of my life (business and personal) isn’t always the best idea on social media. People see your social media page as a reflection of yourself so if you come across as crazy on your social media pages, people who don’t know you personally will think you are a  crazy person in real life. I know of a few people who love to go back and forth sending negative tweets and arguing on others’ pages out of frustration and in real life they are sweet, friendly and make for great company. Social media can be like one of those mirrors you see in a fun house. The image of yourself is distorted by the mirror that is in front of you and while you may the true you others see the distorted image which is not close to what is reality.

I have never been one to put all of my business on my Facebook page  or subtweet about anyone because I am the kind of person that will tell someone face to face if I have an issue with them. You obviously can’t do the same with people you don’t know personally so I have said negative things about celebrities that I don’t care for and have spread that negative energy to my friends and followers. Although it’s unrealistic to like everyone and everything they say or do, I don’t have to take part in bringing them down. I truly do believe the saying “To each his own” and I want to be able to ultimately say that I am open-minded and encourage people to be true to who they are even if I may not necessarily agree with their thoughts. Now this doesn’t mean that I am going to censor myself from speaking my mind when it comes to how I view the world, but I am going to focus on MY thoughts and MY actions before I pass judgment on someone else. This is about my own personal growth and I want to attract what I put out there so I am hoping that my  life will be filled with positive vibes for 2015 and beyond!

Progress can be a slow process but I am going to work on it on a daily basis starting here on “Amore Luxe”. I want every single post I make to add to someone else’s life. I want everyone who reads a post or watches a video on here to feel inspired, encouraged and uplifted after they close their browsers. There are so many sites that focus on gossiping and the negative attributes of the human race and I don’t want to contribute to that in any way. Drama may be  entertaining but it is also draining to the spirit so “Amore Luxe”will be a place where your spirit can feel replenished instead of depleted.  Spreading confidence is my mission and I hope that in the future, millions of people can be the best versions of themselves and help in spreading that self-love for others to see the beauty and light within themselves. And we are going to have lots of fun while spreading the love so make sure you stay tuned!
